SKATING ON THIN ICE?
10 WAYS TO GET THE RIGHT INSURANCE COVER

Ski Club Great Britain has the following 10 key points for skiers and snowboarder's to consider before taking out wintersports insurance:

  1. Ensure the policy provides at least £1million medical cover in Europe and £2 million in the USA and the rest of the world.

  2. Check what the provider means by off-piste. Travel Insurance Direct policies provide cover off-piste skiing / boarding at no additional charge, something that would usually be classed as ‘specialist’ cover by other providers.

  3. Don’t just buy on price – it’s about getting the right cover for your needs.

  4. Ensure you have at least £1 million personal liability cover. Liability claims following accidents on the slopes have risen sharply and are becoming major sources of litigation.

  5. Check out the cost of an annual policy if you take two or more trips abroad each year.

  6. Is your ski equipment covered for damage on the slopes, as well as in transit?

  7. Make sure that the cancellation and curtailment cover is enough for the trips you are going to be taking.

  8. Are you covered for other winter sports activities.

  9. Check that you have legal expenses cover – this will cover your legal costs if someone injures you and you need to take legal action.

  10. Ensure you have adequate baggage and belongings cover, £1,000 as a minimum.
