Prince Edward Island is the smallest province in Canada. Located
at the far eastern coast of Canada, on the Gulf of St. Lawrence
between Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland,
it is surrounded by sandy beaches and pretty sandstone cliffs. The
island is accessible via a nine mile bridge, by air, or by ferry. There
are lots of places to stay and there’s plenty of history
and culture to explore, as well as outdoor activities. Access
to the island is easy via the nine mile long Confederation Bridge
which joins the province of Prince Edward Island with New Brunswick
and forms a part of the Trans Canada Highway.
The capital city is Charlottetown which is located approx. 850
miles from New York City and 1,000 miles from Montreal. The
other city on the island is Summerside. There are
seven towns, Alberton, Cornwall, Georgetown, Kensington, Montague,
Souris and Stratford. The major industries are fishing,
farming and tourism.
Prince Edward Island is known as the birthplace of Canada. In
1864 a meeting took place in Charlottetown at which the groundwork
was prepared which led to Canada being founded.
