Ski Europe

The countries of Europe provide arguably the best skiing in the world when it comes to tradition and pure variety of snow types. From Austria and Switzerland, the birth place of champions, to the cradle of skiing in Norway, along with relative newcomers to ski and snowboard tourism of Bulgaria and Slovenia.

European Ski Resorts can cater for such a wide range of skiing and snowboarding. Families are well catered for with resorts providing creches and schools for youngsters and there are likely to be more affordable countries to visit closer to home.

Experienced traditional winter sports enthusiasts can visit the downhill runs and slalom slopes that their sporting heroes compete on while young skiiers and snowboarders can get their thrills on a growing number of ski parks. Off piste and cross country fans also have a vast number of resorts and countries to explore.

• Andorra

• A small country with a big heart offers skiing with dramatic views in the heart of the Pyrenees. Famous for its duty free shopping this is a great place to visit for a ski holiday on a low budget.
   

• Austria

• Who wouldn't want to skiing in Austria. This is home to such famous resorts as Kitzbuhel and St. Anton, apre ski is legendary, and from the small mountain villages to major holiday destinations such as Salzburg, you will be made more than welcome.
   

• Bulgaria

• One of the newer destinations for ski holidays, Bulgaria has a wonderful mix of interesting culture and history with modern ski resorts for all levels of ability.
   
• Finland
• 
  With its northerly position Finland is often the first of the Nordic countries to open its slopes. If you are looking for uncrowded pistes, the dramatic scenery of the arctic circle and maybe even a visit to Santa, this is the place to be.
   

• France

• From sophisticated and chic to ski and ski out modern chalets, France is a favourite with many a UK skiier. There are many resorts to suit nearly all winter sports enthusiasts and newcomers. From Chamonix to Val D Isere you are bound to find somewhere you would love to return to.
   

• Italy

• Quality skiing and ski holidays abound in Italy and whilst you can still find cheap ski resorts there are more and more places attracting a higher calibre of winter sports enthusiast. That said, Italy has some great skiing and apres-ski, in a more laid-back fashion than elsewhere in the Alps.
   

• Norway

• It is hard to understand why Norway isn't more popular as a ski resorts. Many will say that it is too expensive but this need not be true. Certainly the slopes are well kept, resorts superbly friendly and families are well catered for. And of course it is the home of skiing. When the slopes of southern Europe don't live up to expectations, then Norway is the answer and it's close to home too.
   

• Serbia

• Not as popular as it was in the 70's and 80's, Serbia's popularity as a ski resort is starting to grow again.

• Slovenia

• Another new country for ski holidays, Slovenia has many excellent ski centres with lifts. The best known ski centres are Kranjska gora, which hosts an annual men's downhill event, and Maribor Pohorje, which hosts the annual women's downhill event.
   

• Switzerland

Another great skiing country filled with history and outstanding resorts, Switzerland boasts some of the biggest and toughest runs in the Alps. That said, there is something for everyone to enjoy during their ski holidays. Switzerland is full of charm, amazing scenery and some of the best service available.
