Kopaonik
The purpose-built resort of Kopaonik (fondly known as ‘Kop’)
on Mt. Kopaonik has all the amenities you could wish for close
by, including ski-in/ski-out accommodation.
Located in the southeastern part of Serbia, the area gets plenty
of snow and also enjoys a high percentage of sunny days. One
downside is that the transfer time from Belgrade airport is rather
long. The resort has been gradually expanding and improving
and offers excellent value for money. They have bi-lingual
instructors and there is plenty to keep family members of all
ages happy, making a ski trip there affordable and satisfying. There
is plenty of après ski entertainment with various clubs
and bars.
Also available is cross country skiing, 450m of night skiing,
sleigh rides, ice skating, sleigh rides and ski-mobiling. The
resort has plenty of restaurants and eateries where you can sample
some Serbian cuisine or stick with the known. There
are ten restaurants on the mountain. They have a ski school
with bi-lingual instructors, rentals, and good facilities for
beginners. The mountain is open for snowboarders with plenty
of varied terrain.
Kopaonik resort is set at 1770m (5,087’). The highest
lift is at 2017m (6,617’). Note: If you plan a ski
trip for Christmas, the Serbians do not celebrate Christmas on
the 25th December to the same degree that we do in Britain as
they adhere to the Orthodox calendar.
