Kranjska Gora
Effectively one big ski slope, situated in the triangle between
Austria, Italy and Slovenia, its centre is the fantastic snowy
village of Kranjska Gora. In winter, the entire landscape from
the low lying fields right up to the sky blends into a smooth,
rounded, white surface which makes for ideal skiing. In the last
30 years Kranjska Gora has developed into the most well known
and largest winter sport centre in the country. The village is
situated at a height of 810m above sea level and, together with
the surrounding villages, it has a population of around 2000.
The ski season in Kranjska Gora normally lasts from mid December
until the end of March. In the eventuality that there is not
enough snow, some of the 30km slopes in Kranjska Gora can be
covered with fake snow.
Lake Bled
Lake Bled is one of Slovenia 's most visually stunning areas
and is popular with tourists in all seasons. In winter, the nearest
ski area is the nearby 150m Straža ski hill, which has a
chairlift and a T-bar lift. When snowfall is low, the slopes
are covered with artificial snow and lit up the evenings for
skiing under the stars. Less than 10km down the road is Pokljuka
Highplateau, which is situated at a height of 1330m, you can
find cross country ski runs of more than 35km in length The cross-country
ski runs go through Pokljuka's extensive forests and truly are
a sight to behold
Lake Bled is suited to those in search of peace and tranquility,
although you will find indoor swimming pools, some with thermal
water, a casino, restaurants, coffee houses and bars.
