Slovenia has many excellent ski centres with lifts. The best known ski centres are Kranjska gora, which hosts an annual men's downhill event, and Maribor Pohorje, which hosts the annual women's downhill event.

The highest slopes in Slovenia can be found on Mount Kanin, where the snow can remain well into the spring. Among the most popular destinations for downhill skiers are Krvavec, Rogla in the Zreče Pohorje region, and Golte above Mozirje. Cerkno Alpine centre is the most modern ski slope in Slovenia and caters mainly for families. Many of the larger resorts also have trails for snowboarding, cross-country skiing and ski touring.

Cross-country skiers can find numerous trails by many lakes and on high plateaus such as Pokljuka. Groomed cross-country trails are also found in Logarska dolina and close to many resorts where local ski hills and lifts are also often available. Winter sports pursuits can be diversified with snowmobiling and in some places, tourist rides are offered on husky sleds and horse drawn sleighs.
