Europeans often get to see or hear about just a handful of the
ski resorts of North America, but with a bit of research you
will find hundreds of ski and snowboard resorts, parks and areas
from east to west and north to south. Most ski packages
will have you arriving at the popular resorts of Colorado, Utah
or California, but you may be surprised to know that you can
go skiing in states such as Alabama and Tennessee!
Avid skiers and boarders have snowmaking technology to thank
for longer ski seasons and skiing opportunities in unlikely places. Although
these types of resorts tend to be mostly for the locals, if you
find yourself on business or visiting in any of the atypical
skiing states, check into it because you might just find some
piste close by! Or, if you want something a bit different
from the top-rated, glamorous resorts and a bit more elbow-room
on the slopes then look into the alternatives and take in some
less-travelled sightseeing opportunities along with your skiing
activities.
In the USA, as in many parts of the world, skiing is a popular
pastime for young and old. Over the years many
people have migrated from the Alps and other mountainous areas
to settle in the mountains of North America and to bring with
them their knowledge and expertise and a taste of authentic Alpine
ambience. So, along with warm American hospitality,
progressive resorts, fantastic amenities and amazingly well-maintained
runs, you will also find a pleasing mixture of European traditions
and ancestry.
Although prices for lift tickets have sky-rocketed in some areas,
there are deals and packages to be found to save some money for
your après ski activities, so do your research in the
planning stages. If you have your mind set on the more
glamorous resorts then expect to dig deep into those pockets
for just about everything, but you are unlikely to be disappointed. If
you are on a budget, and unless you plan on renting all your
equipment at your resort destination, then you may want to purchase
the clothing personal items you will need away from the resort
areas.
