of a winter sports destination. However, Arizona has several
excellent ski areas and all within reach of the Grand Canyon
and plenty of spectacular scenery. Other ski areas

Just a short drive from Flagstaff and Phoenix in the northern
part of the state in the Coconino National Forest is Arizona
Snow Bowl. There are 32 runs and trails over approx.
800 acres. Vertical drop is 2,300 (top elevation
11,500’). It offers a fairly equal mix of runs for
beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders. The
scenery is spectacular and there are even views of the North
Rim of the Grand Canyon! With Arizona’s desert
climate the area also enjoys a fair helping of sunny days.

The Flagstaff Nordic Center is located not far from the
Snow Bowl, so if your passion is for cross-country skiing and
snowshoeing then there is plenty to make you very happy. There
is over 25 miles of groomed cross-country trails which are perfect
for either skate skiing or classic skiing. Lessons
are also available.
