Idaho skiing offers something for everyone, whether you’re
looking for a small resort and uncrowded slopes or the world class
facilities offered by the likes of Sun Valley. Targhee
and Silver Mountain are popular as well as Bogus Basin Mountain Resort,
Brundage Mountain Resort, Schweitzer Mountain Resort and Tamarack
Resort.
The state has 18 areas for skiing and boarding plus close to 50
Nordic ski areas. There’s plenty to satisfy ski
addicts with abundant snowfall and champagne powder. Some
of Idaho’s higher elevation resorts receive amazing inches
of white gold during a season. Set amongst the spectacular
scenery of the Rocky Mountains, Grand Teton and Sawtooth mountain
ranges the pristine mountain air is a welcome rejuvenating tonic.

Sun Valley
Sun Valley is reported to be America’s first and oldest destination
ski resort, discovered in the 1930s. It comprises two ski mountains:
Bald Mountain and Dollar Mountain. As its name suggests, perhaps
it’s the generous dose of sunshine local Idahoans receive that
makes them so friendly. Bald Mountain (known as ‘Baldy’)
is the main ski area with 65 slopes, and Dollar Mountain has 10 runs
which are excellent for novice skiers and snowboarders. Sun Valley
is well known for its Helicopter skiing service, offering the experience
for families and skiers of all levels. There is also
a tubing hill at Bald Mountain and a super-pipe. Just
a mile away from the resort is Ketchum, an Old West town with plenty
of activities, restaurants and shops. The area is accessible
via the airport at Boise, just a couple of hours away.
