Washington State’s skiing is mainly located in the Cascade
Mountains in the area between Mount Rainier and Mount Baker. Many
will know that Seattle is renowned for its rainy climate. England
also has the reputation for being very green – and there is
a reason for it… lots of rain! The Seattle
area gets lots of rain, but in winter to the west of the Cascade
Mountains this rainfall translates to anything up to 500 inches of
snow! In the areas to the east of the Cascades there
is less rain and the ski conditions tend to be a lot drier, which
means powder!
Approx. 75 miles to the southeast of Seattle lies Crystal Mountain. This
is Washington State’s only destination ski resort. Other
notable ski areas include: 49 Degrees North, Bluewood, Hurricane
Ridge, Leavenworth, Loup Loup, Mission Ridge, Mt. Baker, Mt. Spokane,
The Summit at Snoqualmie (includes four ski areas and a 2,200’ long
run), Stevens Pass (37 runs), and White Pass.
Heli Skiing is available.
For Terrain Parks boarders should head for 49 North, Mission Ridge,
Mt. Baker, Mt. Spokane, The Summit at Snoqualmie, Stevens Pass
and White Pass where they will find plenty of pipes, super pipes,
jibs and plenty of fun and challenge.
Some smaller ski areas include: Badger Mountain, Bluewood,
Echo Valley and Sitzmark
