Argentina has suffered a lot of economic and political problems
but it also currently offers some great travel opportunities. Argentina
is being discovered for all the wonderful things it has to offer,
including its winter sports facilities. Most people would
think first of its beaches, tango music and beautiful people,
but is has some amazing places for skiers and boarders to get
some turns in during the northern hemisphere summer months. It has
a variety of skiing to suit all types of skiers and boarders. However,
Las Lenas is world-famous in skiing circles for having some of
the world’s most challenging terrain.
The capital and largest city is Buenos Aires, located on the
south shore of the Rio de la Plata on the SE coast of Argentina. It
has a lot of European influence and is a very sophisticated city
with plenty of culture and nightlife.
Other ski resorts and areas in Argentina include San Martin
de los Andes, Cerro Bayo, La Hoya and Caviahue and Cerro Castor
resort at Ushuaia close to the Tierra del Fuego National park.

Las Lenas is an enormous ski area, located approximately 90
minutes by air from Buenos Aires and well known amongst serious
skiing enthusiasts for its challenging terrain and off piste
skiing. Las Lenas is a self-contained resort, offering
all amenities including restaurants, hotels and nightclubs, and
even a casino. Although it is a great place for singles,
it is also well equipped for families. This is the place
where you will find the most avid advanced and expert skiers
and boarders. There are also over 40 miles of runs. This
is a great place for advanced and expert skiers as approx. 40%
of the terrain is graded as double black diamonds. There
are some limited beginner and intermediate runs available,
but they may not be kept to the standards many are accustomed
to in, say N. American popular resorts. One disadvantage
is that when it snows and is windy the upper mountain lifts are
often closed.
