Ski Resorts in New South Wales

Charlotte Pass

Charlotte Pass is Australia’s highest and oldest ski resort and also perhaps the most isolated.  This resort is the only snowbound resort in Australia which can be accessed during the winter season from Perisher Valley.  The upside to the remoteness of the location is that they only allow a maximum of just over 600 visitors to the area at any time.  So you are pretty well guaranteed a great day of skiing with hardly any lift lines.  Slopeside accommodation offers ski-in and ski-out facilities.   This is also a great location for Nordic skiing.   The closest town is 40 km away at Jindabyne.

Perisher Blue

Perisher Blue is a very large ski area with four resorts and close to 1,250 hectares of skiable terrain spread over seven mountains.   There is some ski-in/ski-out accommodation in the area, and some on-mountain accommodation.   The area offers night skiing, Nordic skiing and a snowboarding park.  You can reach the area by car or by the Ski Tube from Bullocks Flat.   The closest town is 30km away at Jindabyne.

Selwyn Snowfields

Selwyn Snowfields is a great, economical family ski area.   It is known to be an excellent place for beginners and intermediate skiers.    They also offer Nordic skiing, tobogganing runs and a tubing park.  There is no slopeside accommodation available at this resort and the closest accommodation is approx. 30 minutes away at Adaminaby.    They have 80% snowmaking facilities.

Thredbo is perhaps the best known resort for those outside Australia.  It boasts the longest vertical in Australia skiing at 672m and two supertrails.   They have plenty of snowmaking to compensate for the relatively low base elevation.   Thredbo Village has a European atmosphere and plenty of accommodation.  There is not much ski-in/ski-out accommodation but the area is well set-up to get you to the slopes quickly.  They have a terrain park with half pipe. There is also great après ski activity and plenty of nightlife in the area.  The closest town, Jindabyne, is 30km away.
