About London Heathrow Airport
In 1944 a small grass airfield 15 miles west of London was purchased by the Ministry of Air. The following year three runways were constructed and today, Heathrow Airport is the country's busiest airport with four terminals (soon to be five):

Terminal 1 handles all domestic flights, most UK airline departures to Europe plus Aer Lingus, Alliance, Cyprus Airways, EL AL, Finnair, Icelandair, Virgin Express and South African Airways flights.

Terminal 2 handles most European carriers' flights to Europe and some longer haul destinations.

Terminal 3 is the long haul terminal for US, South American, Asian and Asia Pacific airlines plus most African carriers. SAS flights to Scandinavia and British Airways to Cape Town, Lagos and Miami also use T3.

Terminal 4 is for British Airways long haul, Concorde flights and BA flights to Amsterdam, Athens, Paris, Moscow and Tel Aviv.

How to Get There
Which way you travel to Heathrow depends very much on which terminal you are flying from so it is well worth knowing this before you start planning. Whichever you fly from you will find access from both the M4 (J4) and M25 (J14) with terminal 4 being located to the south and having a separate entrance to terminals 1,2, and 3. By train, the Heathrow Express operates a non-stop service every 15 minutes from Paddinton Station, while a stopping service - Heathrow Connect - runs from Paddington, Ealing Broadway, Southall and Hayes to Heathrow. London Underground's Piccadilly line runs into London City within an hour.

Shopping and refreshments vary from terminal to terminal but as would expect from the UK's largest airport, you will be spoilt for choice with enough bars, pubs, cafes, restaurants shops and boutiques to equip a sizeable town.

The Hilton (Terminal 4)
The Hilton is an ultra-modern hotel with direct access via a covered walkway to Terminal 4. Superbly located on the airport and close to the major motorways M4 and M25, this first class hotel is just 20 minutes by train from central London. Check ins are form 15.00 and latest checkouts at 12 noon.
