About London Luton Airport
One of the UK's fastest growing airports thanks to the growth
in low cost travel, London Luton catered for 7.5 million passengers
in 2004. Officially opened in 1938 its proximity to London made
it an important base for the RAF although it still managed to
operate as a commercial airport during the war. Despite the occasional
set back, steady growth through the 1950's to 1980s culminated
in it recognition as a major airport when in 1990 it was renamed
London Luton Airport. London Luton currently supports the following
scheduled airlines - easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air, Helios Airways,
British Airways CitiExpress, Monarch Scheduled, Aer Arann and
FlyBe. The Airport offers passengers a large choice of both scheduled
and charter services including daily departures to over 50 daily
scheduled UK and European destinations.
