Although Indonesia can claim to have around 1500 named islands, there are actually more than 13,000 in total. In the centre of the archipelago is Java, which as well as being the location of the capital, Jakarta , is also the most densely populated island.

Unbelievably, Indonesia is the world’s 4th most populated country behind china, India and the USA and the largest Muslim state. The islands are home to over 100 different ethnic groups, however most Indonesians are of mixed origins and practice Islam.

One of the most popular destinations in Indonesia is Bali and is visited by thousands of tourists from all over the world. Famed for its natural beauty, Bali has beautiful sandy beaches, rain forest and also up to date towns offering shopping, restaurants and clubbing. The island of Sumatra is another island that enjoys a lucrative tourist trade due to its stunning scenery and lush terrain.
