As far as beaches, Sydney is blessed with many. The most famous, Bondi, is a popular, long stretch of golden sand, but there are many more lesser known beaches to be enjoyed. Manly beach is another favorite which has plenty of cafes and places to enjoy an ice cream or coffee. North and south of the Harbour there are more beautiful beaches and places to swim, learn to surf, sail, windsurf, kayak, or enjoy any form of water sports. Sydney Harbour can be enjoyed best by getting out on it… whether by sailboat, ferry, water taxi or harbour cruise. Sydney has several national parks and forest areas, including the Royal National Park and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Tours are available to get the most out of the parks and to discover the history of the native peoples and see the Aboriginal rock carvings. If you are in Sydney in January you may catch some of the celebrations of the Chinese New Year, which run for several weeks. Also in January are the Sydney Festival and international cricket matches. January is typically the warmest month of the year.
